This year there was only 6 weeks that we had to prepare for the Te Manahua Kapahaka Competition. We've been practicing 3 times a night and the difficult part was learning the words to the Moteatea. I decided to join in this year because the group was very family oriented, to support Jason and there was no poi section! I think we did a great job. There were three days of events held at PCC which we attended.
*1st (Thursday) There was an openning Wiro welcoming all of the groups from NZ. Jason was involved in the ceremony. That night was the haka and poi-e competition. Jason was going to enter with a couple of friends, but last minute pulled out. We went anyways to support and enjoy the event. *2nd (Friday) I went to the Maisey Rika and Ria Hall concert. They were awesome! They have strong beautiful and different voices. Jason stayed home with Nanea and watched the Chiefs vs. Sharks game. The Chiefs won for the first time!
*3rd (Saturday) We performed in the Te Manahua competition with Te Hokioi. Mom and Pii came out to watch Nanea for us while we performed. That evening, we had a kai with all of the kiwi's at Uncle Hyran's. We prepared 3 boxes of chicken for the feed. While there, we got to meet up with Cousin John Smith and Teinia who are here on holiday.
