Weight: 9 pounds 8 ounces
Length: 21.25 inches
Nanea's weight: 25 pounds
Mommy's weight: 154.2 pounds
19.8 more pounds to loose!
Hali'a eats a lot. She cries, screams when she's hungry and when she's going potty. She's sleeping 3-4 and sometimes 5 hours. I forgot what it's me to have a newborn. They just eat, sleep and poop. Just like her sister, mommy and daddy, she's an early bird always awake at 5 am for a feed and to hang out and see daddy leave for work by 6:45am. Hali'a is very alert and loves her sister. She also enjoys her warm baths. I think she will be another fish!

Hali'a's First Bath
Jason gave Hali'a her first bath. She definitely doesn't look like she enjoyed it, but it's only because she was very hungry. However, the bath was necessary because she had just soiled her pants and other clothes so the bath couldn't have come at a better time. She actually really loves the water...I wonder where she gets that from. BTW, this is the best chair for bathing babies. Nanea loved and still loves this chair.

Her name!
Today after the pressure from the hospital, we finally came to an agreement with our daughter's name...Hali'a Marama Smith.
Naming our children is kind of a process since we have different cultures and want to make sure that they are correct in both the Hawaiian and Maori. Jason also doesn't want our children to have very long Hawaiian names, if possible, so we try, our best to keep the name simple, but meaningful. We wait until we have some days with baby so that we can see and get a feel for their personality.
Hali'a-means fond memory in Hawaiian. We chose this name because she was born at a very time special in our family's life. Jason and I both graduating from college with our bachelors degrees is such a big accomplishment for our family and a very "fond memory" and she being born just a month after graduation is the icing on top!
Today after we named her, our family spent a nice day in the sun at pounders since daddy was off from work. Nanea now asks almost daily if we can go to the beach. Since I cannot at the moment, it was daddy daughter time. We've spent the last couple of days giving Hali'a some sun bath time since the doctor has been checking here for jaundice. So this was the perfect occasion for her to get some sun time.

MÄrama-means to be clear, light (not dark), easy to understand, lucid, bright, transparent in Maori. This is the type of demeanor and personality our daughter has.

Nanea 22 Months
Right before baby comes, our 1st daughter has developed more than ever. Nanea kind of understands that there's a baby on the way. She likes to hug and kiss my tummy and piko often. Nanea also enjoys, as always, playing with daddy whenever he comes home. We're trying to make sure that she gets as much attention that she can before baby #2 comes. She sings, dances, and talks a lot. Here's a little sample of how Nanea is right now.

She's Here!
- Today I make 40 weeks pregnant with this baby girl who has yet decided to come out. So, as we did with her sister Nanea, we scheduled an induction. This is how the day unfolded:
- Friday 11th-Saturday 12th We spent the night at Tutu's house so that she and Pi'i could have a good day with Nanea while Jason and I went into labor.
- Morning-Jason got up and went for a surf at Ehu Kai, just to start the day off on a good note. Nanea and I enjoyed breakfast and zippy's chilli and played.
- 8:30am-got a call from Castle Hospital awaiting our arrival. I thought that our Dr. told us to check in at any time after 8am, but come to find out she actually scheduled the induction for 8am. Oh, well.
- 10am-Checked into the Hospital after stopping at Costco to fill up on gas. Nanea stayed with tutu and had a full day of the zoo, walmart, kailua and playing with animals, came to the hospital and welcomed her sister.
- 12noon-I was finally hooked up to everything and the petosin was going.
- 2pm-My contractions were steady between 2 and 3 minutes. I was 4-5cm dilated and got my epidural
- 4:45pm-Dr. Moore Broke my water and I went up to 7cm
- 7pm-I started feeling more pressure and getting ready to push.
- 7:30pm-started pushing and not more than 5 contractions later, Baby Girl was born at 7:41pm.
Length: 20.5 inches
Head: 13 inches (she definitely has a Crabbe head)
- After all of that, it was time to spend time with Nanea, tutu, and Pi'i, and skype with anyone who happened to be online.

- 13th (Sunday) Recovery. I Was finally able to stand up, take a shower and eat! Nanea came over to hang out with us and baby. She's already a great older sister wanting to hug and kiss her. We really miss her. She came with tutu and a balloon. Jason went home because he had to be at work by 7am the next morning. So it was just me and baby at the hospital for the night. The DeCaires' came over to visit and so did Uncle Koa.

Happy 2013-January
*1st (Tuesday) We went to a FREE community concert featuring Kapena, Rebel Souljahs, and H Trey. It was nice, live entertainment and perfect since it was overcast and pouring all day, so no Bach day and there was nothing else to do.
*2nd (Wednesday) Jason started his first day of work at Bobby Benson Center!
*12th (Saturday) Hali'a was born.

15th Jason has more time to develop his talent as a photographer |
